Welcome to A Secure Base!

A Secure Base Psychological Services, LLC, located in Tampa, FL, was established out of a deep commitment to supporting children, adolescents, and perinatal women facing mental health challenges. Founded by Dr. Yanet Vanegas, a child and adolescent psychologist, the practice offers a safe and nurturing environment where young individuals and expecting mothers can receive comprehensive and effective mental health care. Dr. Vanegas specializes in treating a wide range of childhood mental health issues, with particular expertise in eating disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Additionally, she provides specialized care for perinatal women, addressing mental health concerns such as postpartum depression, anxiety, and the emotional challenges of pregnancy. At A Secure Base, our goal is to provide personalized and evidence-based treatment to help children, adolescents, and perinatal women thrive emotionally and mentally.

Experience

Dr. Vanegas completed her residency at Harvard Medical School‘s McLean Hospital.  She specializes in the treatment of children and adolescents with numerous mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, school refusal, social skills deficits, ADHD, and behavioral concerns, and has experience working with LGBTQ+ populations. In addition, she enjoys working with post-partum women treating post-partum depression and offering early parenthood support. Dr. Vanegas has received extensive training, and is a specialist in the treatment of OCD and eating disorders. She uses evidence-based treatments, such as cognitive behavioral  therapy (CBT), the treatment of choice for depression and anxiety, as  well as exposure response prevention (ERP), the most effective treatment  to date for obsessive compulsive disorder.  In addition, she has extensive experience treating students suffering from test/performance anxiety, and has assisted numerous clients with anxiety related to successfully completing the SAT, ACT, LSAT, and BAR exams. She is a Social Thinking® trained psychologist and is well versed on Social Thinking®’s approach to improving executive functioning deficits (common among individuals diagnosed with ADHD and/or autism). Her approach to therapy is  client-centered, with a focus on increasing acceptance and understanding  of the client, as well as renewing the client’s connection to goals,  values, and improving self-esteem.

Dr. Vanegas is also a certified perinatal mental health psychologist (PMH-C) and has experience treating women during pregnancy and the postpartum period with the many challenges that come with being a new parent.  If you are (or will be) a new mom, or if you are struggling with fertility challenges and need support, please feel free to reach out for a 10-minute phone consultation.

Dr. Vanegas is a contributor to Psychology Today (you can read her articles here) and is a presenter for the Girl Scouts of South Florida. She is a member of the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent  Psychology (SCCAP) of the American Psychological Association, the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals, and the International OCD Foundation.
