A Secure Base Psychological Services, LLC is a psychology practice located in Tampa,FL that was born out of a passion for treating children and adolescents with mental health concerns. Dr. Yanet Vanegas, a child and adolescent psychologist, founded the practice to provide children and adolescents with a place where they can receive effective treatment for their mental health needs. Dr. Vanegas treats an array of childhood mental health concerns, and has a specialty in treating eating disorders and OCD.
Dr. Vanegas completed her residency at Harvard Medical School‘s McLean Hospital. She specializes in the treatment of children and adolescents with numerous mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, school refusal, social skills deficits, ADHD, and behavioral concerns, and has experience working with LGBTQ+ populations. In addition, she enjoys working with post-partum women treating post-partum depression and offering early parenthood support. Dr. Vanegas has received extensive training, and is a specialist in the treatment of OCD and eating disorders. She uses evidence-based treatments, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), the treatment of choice for depression and anxiety, as well as exposure response prevention (ERP), the most effective treatment to date for obsessive compulsive disorder. In addition, she has extensive experience treating students suffering from test/performance anxiety, and has assisted numerous clients with anxiety related to successfully completing the SAT, ACT, LSAT, and BAR exams. She is a Social Thinking® trained psychologist and is well versed on Social Thinking®'s approach to improving executive functioning deficits (common among individuals diagnosed with ADHD and/or autism). Her approach to therapy is client-centered, with a focus on increasing acceptance and understanding of the client, as well as renewing the client’s connection to goals, values, and improving self-esteem.
Dr. Vanegas is a contributor to Psychology Today (you can read her articles here) and is a presenter for the Girl Scouts of South Florida. She is a member of the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (SCCAP) of the American Psychological Association, the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals, and the International OCD Foundation.
